Vapour permeability problems such as stale food, rust, and failed electronics cost the world several trillion dollars every year*. They also regulate how well seals actually seal, how comfortable sports clothes are, how quickly paint (or concrete) dries, and literally thousands of other issues.
This problem can’t be totally prevented, but controlling it has spawned a multi- billion-dollar industry. Versaperm is a technology leader in this area and its equipment is used in industries, universities and National Standards Laboratories around the world.
Versaperm’s systems can measure vapour permeability and the way this varies in normal environmental conditions and across a temperature range from -80 to 1100C, with pressures from 0 to 300 bar. Wider ranges are available on demand. The system can follow specific programmed temperature changes or simulate diurnal, seasonal and other cycles.
The systems are quick, easy to use and accurate in the PPM (Parts per Million) to PPB ranges. They can optionally measure several products, materials, seals, enclosures, components or packages at a single time and for multiple gases including water vapour, oxygen, hydrocarbons, aromatics, CO2 and solvents.
This provides designers, manufacturers and QC specialists with the ability to test and virtually eliminate problems with their products across almost all standard and most non-standard environmental and operational conditions.
The company also runs consultancy and laboratory services which offer advice on permeability in complex cases or where the volume or logistics do not mandate a dedicated instrument.
